Our Mission

Defend the Mojave. By Any Means Necessary.

The Mojave Desert is one of the most threatened ecosystems in North America. We exist to stop its destruction — through direct action, legal advocacy, and relentless community organizing.

The Threats

What's Killing the Desert

The Mojave faces a convergence of threats unlike anything in its 25-million-year history. Each one alone would be serious. Together, they are existential.

01

Industrial Energy Development

Utility-scale solar and wind projects are consuming millions of acres of pristine desert habitat. While renewable energy is necessary, siting these projects on undisturbed desert is not — and we fight every proposal that threatens critical land.

02

Off-Road Vehicle Abuse

Illegal off-road vehicle use destroys biological soil crusts that take centuries to form, crushes burrows, and fragments habitat. A single tire track can persist for decades in the desert's fragile ecosystem.

03

Climate Disruption

Rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns are pushing Mojave species beyond their adaptive limits. Joshua trees, already stressed, face potential extinction across most of their current range within decades.

04

Invasive Species

Non-native grasses like red brome and cheatgrass have transformed fire-resistant desert into tinderboxes. These invasives outcompete native plants and fuel catastrophic wildfires that the Mojave's ecosystems were never built to survive.

Our Approach

How We Fight

01

Legal Intervention

We intervene in environmental review processes, challenge illegal permits, and litigate when necessary. Our legal team has blocked or modified over a dozen destructive projects.

02

Habitat Restoration

We deploy volunteer crews to remove invasive species, restore native plant communities, and rehabilitate damaged areas. Over 3,000 acres restored since 2018.

03

Community Organizing

We build power in the communities that border the Mojave — connecting hikers, ranchers, tribal nations, and city residents around a shared stake in the desert's future.
